Can You Freeze Dunkin Donuts?

The donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts are an American favorite. These donuts have been served to happy customers for almost 70 years. Dunkin Donuts makes so many flavors of donuts like the Apple Fritter flavor, Indy Crème Donut, Maple Long John Donut, Flyers Donut, Spicy Ghost Pepper Donut, and lots more. Personally, I love to grab a half dozen box of Frosted Snowflake Donuts and a coffee on my way to work – it’s the perfect combo for me.

The Dunkin Donuts donut boxes are sold at affordable prices. When this article was written, $8.49 gets you a dozen of delicious donuts in your favorite flavors. There are many times when I can’t finish my twelve flavored Dunkin donuts at once. However, instead of tossing them, I prefer to preserve them till a later date by freezing.

I remember the first time I actually tried freezing a Dunkin Donuts box with half a dozen Dunkin donuts; I wasn’t so sure of how to properly do it. I went on the internet and asked the question; can you freeze Dunkin donuts? The answer was yes. When you freeze Dunking donuts correctly, you can preserve them for as long as 3 months!

I’d like to share with you how to properly freeze your Dunking donuts so that the quality and delicious taste are preserved.

Freezing Dunkin’ Donuts

When our favorite meals and snacks go on sale, we usually want to get an extra serving because the price just went down. The same applies to the delicious Dunkin Donuts. You may be tempted to get an extra dozen of the donuts because they just went on sale. However, when you aren’t able to finish the donuts all at one, you start thinking of how to preserve them. This article covers preservation of Dunkin donuts through freezing.

You can’t just leave your donuts in their box at room temperature and expect them to last long. They can only retain edibility for about a day or two. After that, you’ll have to toss them.

When compared to refrigeration, which only extends the life of donuts by about a week, freezing preserves the quality of donuts for up to 3 months – regardless of their flavor. With that in mind, it is clear that freezing gives you the best shot at preserving the sweetness and quality of your favorite Dunkin donuts.

How to Freeze Dunkin’ Donuts

Here are some easy steps to follow when freezing your Dunkin donuts:

Step 1: Grab a Cookie Sheet and Cover the Base with Wax Paper

First off, you’ll need to get yourself some cookie sheets. If you don’t have any at home, you can grab some at the closest convenience store – also get wax paper. Now, neatly spread out the wax paper on the bottom of the cookie sheet. One that is done, take the flavored Dunkin donuts out of the box and arrange them on the cookie sheet. Make sure that you don’t stack the donuts on top of each other.

Also leave little gaps between one donut and the next. Allow the glazed side of the donut to face upwards and the other side to lie flat against the cookie sheet.

Step 2: Place Cookie Sheet inside Freezer with Dunkin Donuts

After spreading out the donuts on the cookie sheet, place it all inside the freezer for about 5 hours. Once the donuts are properly frozen, you can take them out with the cookie sheet in preparation for the next step.

Step 3: Place in a Plastic Container and Write Date

With the frozen Dunkin donuts out of the freezer, grab a plastic container that’s large enough to fit them all. Also grab your spatula to easily separate the frozen donuts from the cookie sheet. One by one, put the donuts into the plastic container – do this fast so as to prevent thawing.

Before you seal the container, use a pump to vacuum air out of it. Removal of air helps to reduce bacterial action drastically. Once air has been removed, seal the container properly.

To keep track of how long the donuts have spent in your freezer, you may use a market to write the present date on the plastic container. This way you’ll always know if the donuts are still within the 3 months safety window for freezing.

How to Reheat Frozen Dunkin Donuts

At some point, you’ll crave those Dunkin donuts you’ve kept frozen in the freezer. However, you can’t just take them out and start eating them right away while they’re still cold and hard. You need to thaw and reheat the donuts to the right texture.

You can approach the thawing of frozen Dunkin donuts in different ways. First, take out the sealed plastic container with the donuts inside and place it on the countertop. Remove the container’s lid and let it sit for about 1/4th of an hour.

The microwave oven is another option that can be used to thaw your frozen donuts. Place the Dunkin donuts inside the microwave oven and heat them for about 1/4th of a minute. Feel free to add sprinkles on the donut for extra sweetness.

If you’ll be using an oven to reheat the donuts, preheat the oven to 350⁰F first. After that, use aluminum foil to wrap the frozen Dunkin donuts and place them in the oven for 5 minutes.
