Do you love Burrito’s as much as I do? I can’t get enough of them. Mainly because I can throw just about anything in one of those little tortilla treats and it will taste amazing. Beef? Yes please. Rice? Yes please. Beans? Yes please. Lettuce? Cheese? Tomatoes? Yes! Yes! Yes! Please and thank you.
But if you are anything like me you are probably going to be so excited that you end up cooking way too much, meaning that later you are going to need to reheat-o that burrito. See what I did there?
So, what is the best way to reheat a burrito? The best way to reheat a burrito is in the oven. Reheat a burrito in the oven at 225 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes.
There are other ways of reheating a burrito but reheating them in the oven is by far the best way.
There’s no need to throw your leftovers away, just follow the steps below and you can enjoy your leftover burrito as much as you did the first time around.
Best Way to Store a Burrito before Reheating
If you let your burrito cool down to room temperature then wrap it in foil and put it immediately in the fridge, your burrito is likely to last for a maximum of 2 days.
The reason burritos don’t last for a long period of time after they are cooked is because they are full of ingredients that are starchy and high in protein. These are the ingredients that spoil the fastest. On top of that burritos are filled with various ingredients, all of which cool at different times meaning they all start the process of growing bacteria at different times.
So please be cautious with your leftover burrito. If you check it and it doesn’t smell so good, go with your instincts and throw it away.
Best Way to Reheat a Burrito – Steps
As I’ve already mentioned, the best way to reheat a burrito is in the oven. If you reheat your burrito in the oven, it is likely to come out crispier and more delicious than if you were to reheat it any other way. Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: Preheat your oven
Make sure you preheat your oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2: Wrap in Aluminum Foil
Before putting your burrito in the oven, you should wrap it in aluminum foil. This will prevent the tortilla wrap from burning and going too crunchy.
Step 3: Put it in the oven
One the oven is preheated place the wrap on the middle shelf and leave for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes check that your burrito is piping hot all the way through. If it isn’t then put it back in the oven for another 5 to 10 minutes.
Step 4: Finish it off in a frying pan (advised but not essential)
Once your burrito has been reheated you can finish it off in a frying pan on a medium heat. The purpose of this is for it to brown the tortilla to make it look good and taste even better. It is not essential so if you are pushed for time you can skip this step.
Step 5: Voila! It’s ready to eat!
Take your burrito out of the oven or take it out of the pan and place it on a plate. Leave it for a couple of minutes to cool down and then enjoy!
Side Note:
You may have originally chosen to add some delicious but moist Mexican fillings such as sour cream, guacamole or salsa. If this is the case, then you can try and scoop them out before reheating and add them back in again later. However, scooping out can prove to be difficult and a little messy. So, if you don’t mind your burrito being a little wet then then my suggestion would be to just leave them in there.
Will Reheating a Burrito Affect its Taste?
Following the guidance above will ensure that your burrito tastes as good (if not better) than the first time you had it. However, if decide to choose another method of reheating, such as using a microwave, then your burrito is likely to be soggy in texture and is not going to taste as delicious as it would if you cooked it in the oven.
Other Ways to Reheat a Burrito
Whilst reheating your burrito in the oven is the best way to get good results, there are other successful ways of reheating them that you might want to consider.
Grill it
Grilling your burrito might sound a little extreme because of the amount of time it would take to prepare your grill just for one little burrito. But if you have some extra time on your hands then this method could just be worth it.
Preheat your grill for a couple of minutes and spray with a little oil. Place the burrito in the centre of the grill and cook for 4 to 5 minutes. Press down on the top of the burrito with a spatula so that the underside goes that lovely toasty brown color. Then turn your burrito over and do the same thing again. Once it is golden brown and piping hot it is ready to eat.
Use a microwave
Whilst this isn’t the most effective way to reheat your burrito, it is the fastest way to do it. So, if you are pushed for time and have no other choice then do this:
Make sure your burrito has no foil on it and put it in a microwave safe container. Place it in the microwave to heat for 2 minutes before turning your burrito over and heating for another 2 minutes. Take it out of the microwave and then leave to cool for a couple more minutes before eating.
Top Tip
Remember, you can put almost anything in a burrito so why not experiment a little. Try mixing things up by adding all your breakfast favorites: eggs, cheese, ham, spinach, onions, peppers, you name it, you can put it in there.
